In 2012 two friends reunited in London over their love of coffee. In 2015, they bought a 5kg F.I.M.T, (Fabbrica Italiana Macchine Tostatrici coffee roaster, refurbished the machine themselves and set out on a mission to roast and distribute their own coffee.
When deciding on a name for the company, Simone and Roberto branded their product with the name 80 Stone Coffee.
Figuring that the roaster weighed this much and being born in the 80"s, what better name than 80 Stone Coffee.
How it All Began
Simone and Roberto became friends in 2006 when they began working together in a London restaurant
Roberto's love of coffee started out early because he grew up in a coffee shop in Verona and had the personality to match since he worked in hospitality.
Simone, just like Roberto, has also always worked with coffee: roasting, engineering and barista training.
While the two worked in different countries and with different professions over the course of the next few years, their love of coffee eventually reconnected them once again.
Since then, the two has never looked back and 80 Stone Coffee has grown by leaps and bounds.
The Ethics Behind 80 Stone Coffee
In 2010 Simone moved to Guatemala where he spent some time at Fedecocagua, the third biggest coffee exporting company in the country.
He was working in the cupping department, which is a method of tasting and judging coffee roasts.
Simone has known all along that the best coffee comes straight from these amazing coffee farms. They work and visit the ones where their coffee comes from.
In fact, noted on their website, they let everyone know how they feel about ethically sourced coffee -- "We promote full traceability with most of our coffees and we work following a policy of social responsibility and sustainable practices".
What You Will Find Inside 80 Stone
Their New Coffee Roaster: The Petrocini 30kg
80 Stone Coffee Roasters has invested in a new coffee roaster to help them to create a more uniform product.
Their new roaster is a 30kg Petrocini and this particular roaster heats the beans quite differently than their previous machine.
The Petroncini uses a method of roasting that is based on the convection system, whilst their smaller 5kg F.I.M.T. roaster is based on a combination of convection and conduction method.
Not only will you find them roasting some of the best coffee out there, but you can also get barista training, equipment, or stock your store since they sell wholesale as well.
Blue Coffee Box is featuring two of their iconic blends this month in our subscription box.
