The World of Speciality Coffee

Peru Sol y Cafe – A Little Ray of Decaf Sunshine in a Cup

peru-sol-y-cafe-extract-coffee-roasters-|Horsham Transpancy Report|Swiss Water

In Cajamarca, Peru, the organic cooperative Sol y Cafe grows exceptional specialty coffee. With an average farm size of about 20 hectares, it is crucial that farmers work together to gain access to the specialty coffee market.

They aim to improve living conditions for their members by increasing productivity, production, profitability, and quality.

Instead of processing its own coffee, Sol y Cafe sends its cherries to a local wet mill. First, the fruit will be removed from the cherries, and then it will be sorted and processed into washed coffee. After the outer layer of the fruit is removed, the coffee is fermented and then washed and dried.

Decaf Coffee Can Taste Great Too

Finding great-tasting organic decaf coffee can be challenging. Quite often these are produced using poor-quality coffee that isn't traceable to farms or co-operatives. Not with our decaf coffee.

Sol y Cafe is brought to you by Horsham Coffee Roaster and it's been processed into Decaf using the Swiss Water Decaf process.

The Swiss Water Process for Decaffeination

Discovered in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, in the 1930s, the Swiss Water Process is an organic, chemical-free decaffeination method that preserves as much flavour as possible.

When the goal of removing 99.9% of the caffeine from the coffee has been reached, the coffee is ready to be dried, bagged, and shipped to the customer.

Swiss Water's process assures the coffee certifications remain intact, including organic certification. Chemical solvent processes cannot provide that assurance.

Sol y Cafe Decaf

With a flavour profile of rich chocolate, nuts, and fruit notes that include red berries, this coffee has a lot of body. Coffee lovers who enjoy medium roasts will certainly enjoy this one, which is suitable for all methods of brewing. And you'll never know it's decaf.

The flavour is excellent and roasted to perfection. Customer review, March 2022.

New Report from Horsham Coffee Roaster

Horsham Coffee Roaster is one of our regular roasters who not only sources some of the best coffee out there but also values the origin of the coffee as well.

Founded in Sussex in 2012, they began selling coffee from a stall at the Horsham Food Market. Their experience in the market was invaluable to what the company has become today.

Since leaving the market, the team has been able to concentrate on sourcing and wholesale, as well as increasing their roasting capacity.

The coffees that they stock are specialty coffees that have undergone their own cupping and quality control procedures. It is their obsession with coffee quality that carries over from the green coffee they purchase all the way to the final cup.

Horsham's Ethical Approach

Together with the philosophy that has informed their development over the years, Horsham's core focus for sourcing has been on establishing relationships directly with farmers, and producers, as well as import partners.

A well-chosen importing partner is essential to match Horsham with farmers and cooperatives dedicated to producing specialty-grade coffees. They are committed to purchasing ethically traded coffees with complete traceability to their origins.

Furthermore, they work hard to ensure transparency of the financial trail of the coffee, so they and their customers can rest easy knowing that each farmer is being paid well for the excellent coffee they produce.

In February 2022 they produced a full Transparency Report.
